The Barents Sea has the potential that in 10-15 years will allow it to become a new leading offshore oil and gas region providing secure and diversified supplies to Europe and the US.

Moving step by step from the South to the North, the Norwegian oil and gas industry has over several decades developed a strong position on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The best examples of Norway’s achievements on the NCS are Ormen Lange and Snohvit projects. StatoilHydro’s unique experience based on advanced technologies, ability to manage challenging projects and cooperation with partners, suppliers and local communities is also valuable for development of hydrocarbons in the Russian part of the Barents Sea, particularly for the huge and demanding Shtokman project. StatoilHydro together with its partners, Gazprom and Total, is working to mature a best possible solution for the development of Shtokman phase I which will be subject to a final investment decision late 2009.

Russia and Norway are good neighbours and together we will be able meet the challenges and responsibilities in the High North and contribute to successful development of large resources in the Arctic areas.
